Beginning in 2009, Empowerment Resources, Inc. (ERI) gained a new volunteer Jacquelyn Lowe. It was a wonderful partnership lasting 10 years, right until Jacqui’s passing on January 17, 2019.
Jacqui’s involvement with ERI was well-known throughout her family. They enjoyed hearing about her evolving roles, such as volunteering with the marketing and JIW banquet committees, serving in a leadership role on the Advisory Council, and the role closest to her heart – working hands-on with the JIW participants. Given Jacqui’s commitment to the JIW program, and in remembrance of her birthday (October 23), ERI and her family are pleased to announce the Jacquelyn Rae Lowe JIW Scholarship Award. The scholarship will provide supplemental funding support of the program fee to recipients. As her family put it “When deciding how best to commemorate Jacqui’s life, it was a unanimous decision to support ERI and the JIW program. It had a profound impact on Jacqui’s life and we are honored to help sustain the long-lasting benefits of the program to the women of the future”.
JIW participants who exemplify compassion and civic engagement in their community will be invited to apply and complete a brief essay on either 1.) the spirit of giving, or 2.) how they will apply the saying “Hakuna Matata” in their life. Hakuna Matata is a Swahili phrase that roughly translates to “there are no troubles” or “there are no worries”. Hakuna Matata was one of Jacqui’s favorite sayings and one of the many positive ways she responded to life.
In addition to the scholarship program, Jacqui’s family has also provided a donation to the ERI general fund. ERI is grateful to have this thoughtful donation to use towards programming and technology needs.
Jacqui had a true gift of serving and giving back. Her contagious smile and genuine sweet spirit will be missed. We will forever honor and remember Jacqui at ERI. Learn more about Jacqui’s legacy.
