2022 JIW Game Day Recap

A new year of the Journey Into Womanhood program began with a day of family fun and games this past Saturday.

Empowerment Resources Inc. put on a game day and open house for this year’s JIW program, where 60 people were in attendance. Those who attended were able to learn about the program and meet the volunteers and mentors. They were also able to meet the other attendants over get-to-know-you bingo, board games, and Double Dutch jump rope taught by the Jacksonville non-profit Jump4Jax.

“I really liked it because we played Double Dutch,” said Kamryn S., a fourth-grade attendant who will be a part of JIW this year.

Kamryn said she enjoyed meeting new people and playing games. New friends seem like they are in her future as she said she is looking forward to playing with other kids while being in this program.

JIW gives young girls the opportunity to learn and develop skills that will equip them to make the transition to womanhood. They can do this all while making friends and forming relationships with their mentors.

When asked what her favorite part of the day was, Kamryn’s mother, Jasmine B. said, “I think it’s just the fellowship and being around other young women.”

Kamryn is an only child, so her mother appreciates the opportunity for her to meet other girls. Jasmine is most excited about her daughter breaking out of her shell and being helped through her journey into womanhood.

If you were not able to attend the JIW game day, there is no need to worry. Empowerment Resources Inc. is still taking applications for the Journey Into Womanhood program.
