Curls and convo 2024

ERI is the nonprofit partner for Curls and Convo. Mygani’s signature Curls and Convo event was created to instill the value of self-confidence in women + girls of color regardless of their hair texture or skin complexion. The event includes a  panel discussion, hairstyling demos, swag bags filled with hair products and a historical convo about what makes our natural hair magical!

Below is a blog from a JIW attendee about her experience at Curls and Convo.

Attending the 9th annual Curls and Convo event was an eye-opener. Curls and convo taught me a lot about managing my hair and the origin of so many styles we wear today. I enjoyed learning about natural hairstyles while being able to see people demonstrate them. I was fascinated when learning about how what we use today as a hair pick comb had a whole different meaning in African culture. I also appreciated learning about the evolution of Barbie and how styles changed over time. Hearing the panel speak about how they grew to either love or bond with their hair over time was something I believe a lot of people needed to hear. Specifically, hearing one of the panelists , Miss Black  USA Talented Teen, Iyana Brumfield, talk about her relationship with her hair was inspirational based on the fact that she is able to freely wear her hair however she wants without feeling judged. Learning about the Crown Act and how it affects African-Americans in the workplace and in schools shows how far we still have to go for basic equality. Curls and Convo was an amazing event and I hope to see you there next year!
