The JIW program has been busy empowering the girls of JIW with knowledge around healthy food & nutrition as well as fitness. The girls welcomed Yoga instructor Michelle M. who taught the girls individual as well as paired yoga poses and the importance of breath work and stretching. Following that, three JIW mentors who are passionate about fitness, lead a circuit training session. The day ended with the girls making a healthy salad and learning about the benefits of juicing as led by another JIW mentor. On our journey into womanhood, we are learning life skills that promote our overall well-being. JIW offers continuous enlightenment in these areas. In our last two meetings on October 26th and November 2nd, we focused on healthy food and nutrition and fitness activities. We learned that yoga benefits both mind and body, helping us prepare for or unwind from the day. We also explored water infusion and how different fruits can benefit our bodies, like cucumber and watermelon for hydration. During a guided activity, we practiced choosing healthier food options and discussed why they were better choices. These experiences have deepened our understanding of making mindful, healthy choices for balanced lives.- Akilah P.
