Self-love was truly in the air at our JIW Galentine’s “Self-Love” Event hosted at the end of February. Our JIW girls explored what it means to love themselves fully — building self-esteem, redefining beauty (both internal and external), and embracing their unique worth.
A special thank you to our amazing presenters and supporters:
Below are two stories about the day from two JIW girls.
Reflections from a JIW High School Student
On February 21st, the JIW girls had a Galentine’s Day event. We learned about self-love, hair care, and skin care. In the morning when we walked in, Shannel (a JIW member) gifted every girl a flower. We had a quick talk about self-love, and we were reminded that our bodies are a temple and that we need to protect and take care of them.
We then had a group talk about skin care, which was facilitated by a licensed esthetician, Ms.Krystal. She informed us about the correct use of sunscreen and the right amount of skin products to use. We also learned how important it is to keep your skin clean, stay hydrated, and choose products that are good for your skin type. Next, we did an activity where we made lip scrubs. As we were making the lip scrubs, Ms. Krystal explained why the ingredients in them could benefit us.
We also talked about hair care. We learned about different types of split ends and what they can cause to happen to your hair. We talked about edges and how to properly take care of them. Lastly, we were shown hair products that were recommended for our hair.
When we ended the day, we were provided gift bags with hair care products and allowed to select a shower steamer as well as shea body butter. I enjoyed the day and learning all about self-love, hair care, and skin care.

Reflections from a JIW Middle School Student
The favorite part of the Self-Love Day for me was the hands-on activity on a DIY lip scrub. The presenter taught us how to make these and also talked to us about different types of skin care. We also learned from another presenter about how to grow your hair and how bad it can get if you don’t cut your split ends. We learned about different types of dandruffs and products to treat dandruff. The day ended where each JIW girl got a bag full of bath bombs, shea butter, hair products, and candy. We took a photo to summarize the ending. I hope this JIW workshop was good for ALL of my JIW sisters.
