JIW Goes to Jaguars Honor Rows

The Journey Into Womanhood (JIW) girls along with hundreds of other high achieving students cheered on the Jacksonville Jaguars at their game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, October 9.

When asked what she was most excited about for the game, Elyssa E. said, “Just to be around other people and actually having fun, because since Covid we haven’t had a lot of fun.” Although this was not Elyssa’s first Jacksonville Jaguars game, it was her first time attending with her friends in the Journey Into Womanhood program.

Approximately 30 students and adults attended the game with JIW. This was made possible by the Jacksonville Jaguars Honor Rows program, which is an NFL youth incentive program that encourages students to do well in school with the opportunity to attend a Jaguars game free of charge.

The Jacksonville Jaguars Honor Rows program is a nationally recognized program that uses seats at Jaguar home games as an incentive to encourage children and youth to set and achieve ambitious, but realistic goals.  Youth must be between the ages of 9 and 17 to earn a seat to the game, and do not have to be an A-B honor roll student to participate.

“This is my first actual [Jaguars game], which is funny because I actually grew up here”, Yvelis R. said. Yvelis is a JIW mentor, and she attended the game as a chaperone.

The day was packed with lots of cheering, fun in the sun, and anticipation. Although the Jaguars did not win against the Texans, it was still quite the experience.
