Welcome to Nurturing Parenting Programs®

Empowerment Resources Inc. is dedicated to “strengthening families” by offering Nurturing Parenting Programs®.  This Evidence-based program, supports and encourages parents and caregivers to raise their children in a supportive environment, while acknowledging the challenges and stresses of parenting. Anyone is welcome to attend these classes and they cycle through 8 topics (feel free to attend one or all 8).

They cover:

  1. The Philosophy and Practices of Nurturing Parenting
  2. Understanding & Developing Family Morals, Values & Rules
  3. Understanding Feelings
  4. Discipline, Rewards and Appropriate Ways to Punish
  5. Communicating with Respect
  6. Building Self-Worth in Children and Teens
  7. Praising Children and Teens & their Behavior
  8. Learning Positive Ways to Deal with Stress

Most of us need skills to learn around parenting, emotional intelligence and communication from infants, toddlers, children to teenagers.  It is an ongoing practice.  Often when we are stressed or frustrated it is easier to revert to what we were taught rather than pausing and using our words or asking questions from our children and teens, taking time for ourselves to cool down, to really listen to their concerns and to give praise to children and even to ourselves.

These workshops are taught by experienced facilitators and social workers in the field, Ms. Natasha Clayton, MSW, Mrs. Sylvia Adkins, LCSW and Mrs. Elexia Coleman-Moss, MPA. All are trained in the Nurturing Parenting Programs® curriculum.

Natasha says, “My commitment is to children and to their families; strengthening families, strengthening skills so that families can stay together. This class gives an opportunity to teach about parenting. It’s complex. These classes provide alternative and optional ways of thinking about parenting.”  Elexia Coleman-Moss, Executive Director of Empowerment Resources Inc. says, “I enjoyed teaching this program and believe everyone can benefit from the program as we can all sharpen our parenting skills.” All facilitators have more than 30 years of experience.

Thanks to funding from the Partnership for Child Health, these seminars are free and open to the community. The 75 minute virtual seminars take place on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. – 7:15 p.m. are great for single fathers, adoptive or fostering parents, caregivers, grandparents raising children, co-parents and more. These workshops also act as a parent support group.  At the end of each seminar participants are able to gain access to additional resources and receive a certificate of completion if all 8 workshops are completed.
